EDITORIAL ETHOS:

As a writer myself, I know how important (and how intimidating) editorial feedback can be. As an editor, it’s my desire—and responsibility—to build trust and rapport with the writers whose work I support.

I see editing as a form of play. I will approach your work with care, curiosity, and lightness. When you hire me, we will discuss your expectations and hopes for the editorial process. Do you want a simple copyedit, or are you wanting to turn a piece over and over in your hands until it looks like something else altogether?

My job is to help you align your work with your vision for your work: that is, to understand what your project intends to be, and to assist you in its becoming. I look forward to working with you!

PS: I will never, ever, ever use AI to edit your work. Only humans here :)

My Approach

When you reach out with an editorial inquiry, we’ll collaborate to customize your editorial experience. Do you want to jump right in? Would you like to have a call to discuss your project? You and I will partner to come up with a plan that suits your vision and your budget. We’ll talk through expectations so we have a shared understanding of our working dynamics, as that is (in my experience) fundamental to building a trusted editorial relationship.

Credentials

I am a published poet-scholar, essayist, and interdisciplinary researcher. I am also an MFA in Creative Writing candidate at the University of Guelph, where I am currently working on a hybrid thesis that interweaves fiction with poetry and creative nonfiction. I am fluent across genres and have done copyedits, line edits, and developmental edits on short- and long-form projects.

Additionally, my research and other writings have been published in a peer-reviewed journal, and I have written several successful grant proposals. I was a Fulbright graduate semifinalist for my work in poetics.

Client Reviews

"Working with Torri was an absolute gift. She’s the kind of editor who listens deeply to the work and to the writer. Torri makes revisions feel like collaboration rather than correction. Her feedback was precise, generous, and in service of the heart of the piece."

“Torri engaged my words with so much empathy. In doing so, she offered me incredibly generative guidance, helping to clarify my thoughts and let my writing voice shine through. Encountering Torri as an editor—after being a fan of her prose, poetry, and thinking for so many years—feels like discovering another facet of her abundant creativity and her unique ability to navigate the vulnerable act of writing with unceasing curiosity and care. I hope to work with her again and again!”

“As an educator and writer I say confidently that Torri Blue is the best editor I’ve worked with. She has helped me with graduate level academic papers and national graduate scholarships, as well as creative writing spanning genres of poetry, fiction, and creative non- fiction. Torri’s astute attention to detail, her sharp and efficient editorial skills, and her deep empathy and engagement—with the both the writing and the writer—make her a one of kind editor. Any writer would be lucky to work with Torri. My work has been immeasurably pushed, elevated and strengthened by Torri’s editing and involvement.”
